Gorgeous (mostly) Pads of the MEGAfm - Part 2

video upload by Morning Strategy

Part 1 here

"Can't get enough of that broken, buzzy sound. Though I had just about enough of the latency between the launchpad, shitty laptop, midihub, MEGAfm, and shitty laptop. So the performances are oddly swung.

DSI Pro2: Sweet Fifteen - patches for meaning

Morning Strategy

"Making the first fifteen patches on my new DSI Pro2 was one of my favourite synth experiences ever. This was one of the first synths I got interested in, back five or six years ago, and I know now that I should have bought it then.

On a related note:

00:00 I got lost in a search for meaning
00:26 until the search became the meaning
00:57 a transition event
01:25 like an earthquake is to moving plates
02:14 extended and reduced to human life
03:13 as the growth rate spikes
04:18 mountains of guilt stream like fountains of shame
07:25 the impulse to buy, to force a conflict
08:51 until the infection settles into lethargy
10:35 a reflection; an inflection
18:43 the seed planted for future trees
20:56 where have the continents been
22:57 soft footsteps from the floor below
24:18 an echo that came before
25:17 an echo fed to itself

Moog Subharmonicon Workflow - with Chase Bliss Tonal Recall and AD EOS2

Published on May 23, 2020 Morning Strategy

"Absorb some sounds from the Moog Subharmonicon through a thorough coat of delay from the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall. Patch from scratch: 7:18.

32:50 is my favourite glump - and it only took 25 minutes to get there...

I've been dubbing this synth the "Subharm" in my file management and social comments. The battle with this synth is to get those sub harmonies to play along, to make fewer waves and stop hurting each other, do less harm. I'm working my way underneath them to choose the compatibles, and it's a good fight.

Long-form video demos lately, not sure why, but I'm enjoying them more from both the creator and receiver side of YouTube. They're little ambient EPs that stand alone, apart.

Unrelated: I'm starting a vidcast on family hiking, hence the sub-footage.

Present and observe,
Andy"

Subharmonicon Omnibus

Published on May 21, 2020 Morning Strategy

"Collecting 10 of my first patches on the Subharmonicon in an omnibus video. Patch timing is included on screen and below.

Moog Audio was kind enough to deliver a Moog Subharmonicon to me last week. These first patches were my attempt to understand the synth's quirks and special places. Thanks as always to Ableton Echo (delay), Audio Damage Eos2 (reverb) and Klevgrand Grand Finale (master bus) for the support.

I'd intended to pare this down into a shorter video, but ended up including the full compositions for posterity. Follow the on screen cues to skip between patches or put it on in the background and float away.

Yes, it drones (56:34)"

Gorgeous (mostly) Pads of the MEGAfm

Published on May 3, 2020 Morning Strategy

"I got my hands on the new MEGAfm synth from Twisted Electrons, and it's incredible. There's a crunch to it that I'm not sure YouTube will capture, but it makes playing this thing exciting and crispy. In between notes there's a quiet undercurrent of hiss and bits that makes me fell like I'm inside a sega game.

These are the first seven patches in a patch bank that will be available for download on the Twisted Electrons page. Subscribe and stay tuned for more info, and let me know in the comments what you think of this synthesizer.

Only processing is a hint of compression (Klevgrand Korvpressor) and a dash of reverb (Audio Damage EOS 2).

16 Patches for the Korg Radias (and some free poop talk)

Published on Mar 21, 2020 Morning Strategy

Special guest comes in at 1:45.

"I picked up a Korg Radias on a trade as it had fueled so many personal synth fantasies from the last couple of decades. I have an MS2000r so I wasn't expecting much. I was surprised for sure to find a 2006 synth engine so capable in 2020.

It's capable of a lot of weird (patch 16 - le chaos) and a lot of really beautiful subtle sounds as well. These patches lean heavily on the Decimator effect, which is the first of its kind I've ever come to love (check out Klevgrand's Degrader, my new obsession). I don't use the mod sequencer much, preferring instead to fill up the six virtual patches and go big on the velocity sensitivity.

It took a bit of experimentation but then I figured out how to use one sequence lane for multiple sounds by using keyboard splits. This made it easier to build a full verse using one sequencer for drums and the other for bass/pad, leaving the arp for leads.

Cool stuff for sure, probably going to keep this one a while. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions!

SOURCE AUDIO Hot Hand USB Wireless MIDI Controller

Published on Oct 14, 2013 sourceaudioeffects·95 videos

"SOURCE AUDIO ADVANCES WIRELESS MIDI MOTION CONTROL FOR DJS WITH THE HOT HAND USB

Woburn, MA-Source Audio, innovative designers of the Hot Hand® 3 Wireless Effects Controller and Soundblox motion controlled effects, have released the Hot Hand USB Wireless MIDI Controller. The Hot Hand USB delivers an entirely new method of dynamic control to DAW (digital audio workstation) or live-performance software like Ableton Live, Traktor, Reason, Serato DJ, and Logic/MainStage. Hot Hand bypasses traditional knobs and faders, allowing users to manipulate software parameters with wireless motion-control. It also integrates perfectly with DAW controllers like Ableton Push, Livid Instruments' Base, or Native Instruments' S2/S4.

Hot Hand USB consists of a wireless motion sensing ring and USB stick receiver. The lightweight ring contains a 3-axis accelerometer that detects hand movement and translates it to MIDI control messages. Both quick motions and gradual tilting create control signals that can be applied to any parameter to create effects like organic bass wobbles, filter sweeps, delay times, modulation, and beat repeats. The receiver plugs directly into any Mac or Windows PC, installs without drivers, and appears as a MIDI device. With the Hot Hand USB Editor (downloadable software, available at sourceaudio.net), users can assign the X, Y, or Z axes to control multiple parameters as well as adjust the range and sensitivity of the incoming MIDI signal. Users can operate up to four rings simultaneously and maintain wireless connections for up to 100 feet (30.5 meters).

Hot Hand USB has already received high praise from notables in the electronic music scene. David Mash, Senior Vice President for Innovation, Strategy, and Technology at Berklee College of Music raves, "Source Audio's Hot Hand USB is a truly innovative wireless MIDI controller that allows me to easily manipulate and control many sonic parameters at once, through either subtle or obvious gestures. It is easy to set up, edit and configure, and allows me to use simple, natural movements to create musical nuance in my performances." Vladimir Coman-Popescu (editor of Controllerism.com) said, "Hot Hand is insanely fun and versatile, and is now permanently part of my regular live setup. Finally, I can fist pump during my sets and have it actually do something to the sound!"

Widely acclaimed for bringing innovation into the world of guitar effects pedals, Source Audio was founded in January 2005 by former engineers, scientists, and executives of Analog Devices, Kurzweil Music Systems, and Thomas H. Lee Partners. In 2006 Source Audio released its flagship product, the Hot Hand Motion-Sensing Ring. Since that time, Source Audio's distortion, filter, modulation and Hot Hand products have found their way onto the stages and recordings of David Bowie, Phish, My Morning Jacket, The Cure, and Adrian Belew to name a few. Source Audio was also recognized through multiple awards from Guitar Player, Guitar World, Bass Player, and Premier Guitar Magazines.

The street price of the Hot Hand USB Wireless MIDI Controller is $119. It is available now. For more info and a list of authorized dealers, visit www.sourceaudio.net or call Source Audio directly at 781.932.8080."
